Pediatric brain tumor

Brain tumors in children. This is a way to group them, not one type.

What this means

This is not one tumor. It is a way to group research about brain tumors in children.

Why children are not small adults here

The types are different. Medulloblastoma and some midline tumors are far more common in children, while glioblastoma and brain metastases are far more common in adults.

The same tumor name can also behave differently in a child than in an adult, and be treated differently.

And a child's brain is still growing, so care teams weigh the effects of treatment on learning, hearing and growth for years afterwards. That is why children's teams plan long follow-up from the start.

Reading research with this filter on

A study in adults may not apply to a child even when the tumor name matches. Check who was in the study before you carry the result across.

What to ask your team

This is not medical advice. It explains research in plain words. Your care team knows your case. Talk with them before you make any decision about your treatment.
