What a meningioma is
Your brain is wrapped in thin layers called the meninges. A meningioma starts in those layers, not in the brain itself. It grows on the outside and can press inward.
Most meningiomas are grade 1 and grow slowly. Some are grade 2 or 3 and grow faster.
What often happens
Many are found by accident, on a scan done for another reason. A small one that causes no trouble may just be watched with scans.
Because a meningioma sits on the outside, symptoms often come from where it presses rather than from the tumor itself.

- Is it pressing on anything that explains my symptoms?
- Are we watching it or treating it, and why?
